Old Movies: Sponformorous II: Revenge of the Pharaoh
Genre:
Comedy
Production Company: Pathetic Productions
Premise: Two guys decide to go to Egypt,
one as a joke, and one to be spontaneous. A common friend of the two joins them
on this trek in an attempt to fit in.
Background:
Despite weeks and weeks of available filming time, this film was started less
than 24 hours before it was to be turned in. Min, Martin, and Patrick first
gathered at Jack in the Box and thought. Martin suggested they go to Egypt while
the camera was on and they decided to go along with the random plotline. In
Egypt it was decided that each person would be interviewed regarding their assigned
topic. In the background of said interviews, Martin suggested green-screening
the Sphinx behind the interviewee. The image of the Sphinx was never superimposed
and thus the second half of the film has a green posterboard taped to the wall
behind each group member. The title was a compilation of each of the three abstract
attributes that were to be defined therein. Spontaneous, Conformist, and Humorous.
The fact that the words were mixed together is spontaneous, the fact that it
is a sequel while no Sponformorous part I exists is humorous, and the fact that
the sequel is entitled Revenge of the Pharaoh is conformist because many sequels
involve something's revenge. The opening credits were created by placing each
cast members name on a map of Egypt and slowly panning across the map. The group
members spent the night at Min's house where the second half of the film was
shot and the entire thing was edited. The film was delivered to class by the
sleep-deprived Pathetic Productions twenty minutes before class ended which
gave the room just enough time to see it in its entirety.
